The role involves operating and maintaining diagnostic testing equipment, performing various laboratory tests according to policy, and collecting blood samples via venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick. Responsibilities also include cross-matching blood products, reporting results, maintaining quality control data, and adhering to safety procedures like the chemical hygiene plan.
Candidates must possess a current MLT license and have successfully completed the examination accepted by the Georgia Department of Human Resources, or have grandfather approval via on-the-job training. A Bachelor’s Degree in Biological, Chemical, or Physical Science or Medical Technology with Clinical Laboratory Training is required, along with current CPR certification.
Operation of diagnostic testing equipment in accordance with departmental policy Maintain diagnostic testing equipment according to departmental policy Use of microscope for diagnostic analysis Perform all laboratory testing according to departmental policies and procedures Collection of blood samples through venipuncture, finger stick and heel stick Cross match blood products for transfusion Received orders and report results correctly Maintain quality control data Perform manual diagnostic testing procedures Use personal protective equipment as required by procedure. Adhere to chemical hygiene plan Attend and participate in in-service education programs, on-the-job training, workshops, etc Prepare samples for reference laboratory Receive specimens Instruct nursing personnel in patient preparation and specimen collection Demonstrate understanding of facility, Mission Vision, and key values as measured by performance and loyalty to the same Monitor supply inventory The facility provides and employee participates in education and training to improve their knowledge and skills related to the patient population served and the type and nature of care provided by their respective department Employee demonstrates knowledge and responsibility for the effective and safe use of all equipment in his/her activities Supervision of Medical Laboratory Technologist and use of independent judgement Take orders from physician
Current MLT license Successful completion of examination as accepted by the Georgia Department of Human Resources, or on the job training with a grandfather approval.
Bachelor’s Degree in Biological, Chemical or Physical Science or Medical Technology with Clinical Laboratory Training.
Prior experience working in Microbiology is preferred.
