About the role

Registered Nurses in the Emergency Department are responsible for assessing patient needs and implementing medical treatment plans. They perform triage, monitor patient conditions, and coordinate care with physicians and families.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Emergency Room Nurse Manager, Emergency Room Registered Nurses are responsible for assessing and identifying patient needs, and implementing and monitoring patient medical plans and treatments.

Duties and Responsibilities

Creates and reviews care plans. Ensures medical plans, medications, treatments, and nurse notes comply with physician orders. Updates and revises plans of care based on changes in medical orders and in accordance with policies and procedures. Completes triage as soon as possible. Completes patient assessment at the beginning of triage and as patient conditions change. Follows unit based and age appropriate guidelines in performing patient assessments. Notifies the nurse manager of potential crisis situations immediately. Informs providers about significant changes in patient conditions in a timely manner. Monitors patients for any changes in condition and intervenes early by notifying the Nurse Manager changes that occurred during the shift. Processes provider order within a timely manner and ensures STAT orders are completed first. Participates in nurse rounding and reporting prior to shift change. Assesses physical and psychosocial growth and development of the patient. Gives medications, including IV piggyback-diluted medications and IV push medications according to hospital policy. Collects lab specimens. Notifies the physician of lab results. Assists with patient care (wound care, Activities of Daily Life care, meals, etc). Communicates patient updates to families and medical staff. Instructs patient and family on discharge process. Completes patient rounds every hour. Performs chart checks for completeness in terms of documentation, vital signs and orders to cover interventions to meet DNV standards. Completes patient documentation every shift. Charts medications and any other pertinent information. Enters patient charges every shift. Completes unit safety checks and identifies, eliminates, and reports any identified safety issues every shift. Orders patient supplies and materials. Acts as a preceptor for nursing students and orients new hires of the same discipline. Keeps the work station clean and assists with housekeeping duties (employee fridge, putting away supplies, etc). Performs other job-related duties as requested.

Job Qualifications

  • Education/Qualification
  • Requirements: Current RN License in the State of Georgia. Current BLS Certification. (Must obtain within 90 days of hire). Current CPI Certification. (Must obtain within 90 days of hire). Current ACLS Certification. (Must obtain within 6 months of hire).

Experience

  • Previous experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Room is preferred but not required.
  • Language
  • Skills: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current Georgia RN license and obtain BLS, CPI, and ACLS certifications. Previous emergency room experience is preferred but not required.
