The Residential Peer Specialist serves as a role model to provide individual and group support for clients in residential and community settings. Key duties include drafting recovery plans, facilitating wellness groups, and coordinating access to community resources.
Candidates must have at least one year of personal recovery from mental illness or substance use disorder and hold a COPA certification in Colorado. A valid driver's license and an established recovery plan (WRAP or APPR) are also required.
Peer Specialists serve as part of the treatment team and provide peer support services to clients on an individual basis and in peer led groups. Residential Peer Specialists provide services primarily in residential settings with office and community settings as well.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Works with the treatment team to enhance support for clients by functioning as a peer role model Exhibits competency in their personal recovery and use of coping skills Works with client to draft wellness and recovery plans Co-facilitates psycho-educational groups, and facilitates wellness groups, skill building sessions, and other activities that support and strengthen client’s recovery Coordinates client’s access to community resources Supports and teaches clients to advocate for services Assists by arranging transportation to community resources, and transports clients when directed by supervisor Participates in meeting and in-services Participates in supervision sessions Performs other job duties as assigned
At least one year of personal recovery (two years preferred), with mental illness and/or substance use disorder with lived recovery experience that reflects stability and effective use of coping strategies Certified Peer and Family Support Specialist Certification in Colorado through COPA SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES Ability to interact sensitively and effectively with people of different cultures, backgrounds and with people with degraded levels of functioning Basic computer literacy skills Ability to obtain and retain a Driver’s License Ability to work as a team member Ability to work flexible hours Ability to travel to and work in different Centennial MHC locations, PRN Has an established WRAP Plan, APPR, or equivalent recovery plan
