About the role

The Physician Assistant manages the daily care, admissions, and discharges of neurosurgical inpatients and trauma patients. They collaborate with attending neurosurgeons and multidisciplinary teams to execute treatment plans and coordinate patient care.

Apex Spine and Neurosurgery is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Physician Assistant to join our expanding neurosurgical team. This position is primarily hospital-based, supporting a private practice group that provides neurosurgical coverage at a Level III Trauma Center at Piedmont Eastside Medical Center. The role focuses on comprehensive inpatient and trauma care for neurosurgical patients.

Position overview

The Physician Assistant will be responsible for the daily management and coordination of neurosurgical inpatients and trauma patients. Core duties include rounding, admissions, discharges, and care coordination in collaboration with the attending neurosurgeons and multidisciplinary hospital teams.

Apex Spine and Neurosurgery is a private practice group consisting of four board-certified neurosurgeons. The group places a strong emphasis on education, collaboration, and mentorship. The surgeons are highly approachable, enjoy teaching, and are actively engaged in supporting advanced practice providers through open communication and hands-on guidance.

  • 8 hour shifts
  • 5 days per week
  • One weekend per month required as part of the contract

  • Primary responsibilities
  • Perform daily inpatient and trauma rounds for neurosurgical patients
  • Manage admissions, discharges, and ongoing inpatient care
  • Coordinate care with nursing staff, case management, therapy services, and consulting teams
  • Perform patient evaluations, histories, and focused physical examinations
  • Assist in developing and executing treatment plans under attending supervision
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and specialty consultations
  • Provide post-operative care, patient education, and follow-up planning
  • Document all patient encounters accurately and efficiently in the EMR
  • Support inpatient neurosurgical coverage as needed, including trauma-related care
  • Maintain strong clinical skills through ongoing professional development

Qualifications

  • Current and valid Physician Assistant license in the State of Georgia, or pending application
  • Inpatient, hospital-based, surgical, trauma, or procedural experience preferred
  • Prior neurosurgery experience preferred, but not required; training will be provided
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently in a hospital setting
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and supporting practice goals
  • Experience with EMR systems preferred

Requirements
