The Occupational Therapist evaluates and treats patients to restore independence and improve quality of life. They also manage a caseload, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with healthcare teams.
Candidates must have an Iowa Occupational Therapy license and current certifications in Basic Cardiac Life Support and mandatory reporter training. Experience in Mercy Home Care is required, along with good communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Shift Day Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Summary This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by enabling individuals to perform meaningful and purposeful activities across the lifespan. Occupational Therapy assists in developing, improving or restoring independence to any person who has an injury, illness, disability or psychological dysfunction.
Job Duties Completes evaluations of assigned patients in accordance with the established standards of care and practice. Plans and provides treatment to assigned patients as appropriate in accordance with established standards of care and practice. Completes all documentations of services per department standards. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team intra- and interdepartmentally to facilitate the department’s /units ability to meet its goals and objectives. Maintains updated license and submits evidence of status to supervisor/manager within two weeks of receipt of new updated license. Communicates to COTA’s or technicians necessary information for optimal and safe patient care. Supervisors COTA treatments and documentation. IP: Monitors patient vitals and reviews critical lab values – N/A. IP: Communicates with nursing staff and physicians regarding patient precautions, progress and discharge status N/A. OP: Demonstrates knowledge of and administers modalities such as fluidotherapy, Sanet Vision Integrator, UFOV, E-stim, iontophoresis, stereo optic and infrared light N/A. WIRC: Performs agility screens, functional capacity evaluations, disability evaluations N/A. Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries. Department Specific Duties Occupational Therapy: Pediatric Specialist: Specific training and skilled in sensory processing disorders including therapressure protocol and therapeutic listening - N/A. NICU training and skilled in feeding difficulties - N/A. Must be competent in performing pediatric assessments to include but not limited to PDMS-2, BOT-2, MVPT-3, VMI-6, King Devick, Sensory Profile - N/A. Demonstrate proficient and competent understanding of adaptive driving equipment – set up and removal, as well as correct use of multiple adaptive pieces of equipment in driving vehicle as well as client’s vehicle. Demonstrate understanding of state licensing laws and regulations in order to coordinate assistance with client license renewals, restrictions, termination and regulations concerning adaptive equipment. Work with equipment installers throughout the Midwest to set up appropriate adaptive equipment and custom fabrications for all driving impaired clients. Mercy Home Care: Manages a case load of patients in a collaborative process that assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the options and services and equipment required to meet the patient's health and human service needs. Scheduling patient visits per regulation. Demonstrates ability to function independently. Demonstrates tolerance of home environment and diverse lifestyle of patient/family.

Education Education sufficient to receive licensure in the state of Iowa Licensure, Certification, Registration Occupational Therapy Iowa License required Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required. Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to hire or transfer date.
