- Clinical Practice Manager for Benning Road and the Director of Operations for Surgical Subspecialties, the X-Ray & Mammography Technologist will perform diagnostic exams for the Breast Surgery, Orthopedics, Surgical Oncology, and other assigned specialties.
- General Summary: X-Ray Tech Performs a full range of diagnostic radiographic examinations in the department, clinics, and operating room.
- Ensures that radiation safety precautions are taken.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures that apply to the performance of obtaining radiographic studies, including performing a correct exam, including laterality, on the correct patient at the time requested.
- Provides basic information to patients and/or families about procedures to be performed and can answer questions if asked.
- Assists the Radiologists in performing special radiological examinations.
- Assists with the upkeep of radiographic equipment and adheres to all related safety requirements and reports needed for equipment repairs.
- Ensures timely completion of all exams through tracking, scanning, and other technical workflow as related to Radiology Information System (RIS, Enterprise Radiology Solutions (ERS), and Enterprise Electronic Record (EMR (Electronic Medical Record)).
- Operates digital and fluoroscopic radiographic equipment.
- Participates in orientation and other opportunities for learning as delegated by the department, other hospital staff, and students.
- Exemplifies SPIRIT values, and actively participates in Patient Safety Standards and tasks.
- Coordinates and collaborates with Technical Aides to ensure efficient room turnover.
- Coordinates, communicates, and collaborates with Patient Financial Associates that register radiology exams to minimize delays and potential safety issues for the outpatient population.
- Mammo Tech Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Imaging principles, theory, anatomy, and pathology processes while utilizing the most appropriate techniques and/or positioning for optimal examinations, as demonstrated by exam results.
- Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patients, or patients' charts, to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination, as evidenced by the exam results.
- Demonstrates the effective use of radiation protection procedures with collimation devices and protective shielding, as evidenced by incident reports.
- Maintains an orderly, safe, and clean environment.
- Ensures rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies for procedures.
- Performs and documents routine quality control testing of equipment.
- Performs/recognizes the need for routine maintenance of imagers/processors to maintain consistent quality images, as evidenced by the physician and exam results.
- Minimum Education and Experience: Education: Graduate of an accredited school/program of radiography Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Imaging experience as a Rad tech in a hospital/healthcare environment; Must be able to perform in 2 or more modalities with an even amount of time spent rotating in each annually based on the needs of the unit.
Certification
ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) registered as a Radiologic Technologist. Must obtain advanced certification in applicable modality within 1 year of training; BLS certification preferred or achieved in first 90 days Compliance
