The Medication Technician is responsible for safely administering medications and treatments to residents in accordance with physician orders and Title 22 Regulations. They must maintain accurate medication records, monitor resident conditions, and coordinate with pharmacies and physicians to ensure continuity of care.
A high school diploma is required, while a CNA certification or a certificate in assistance of self-administration of medications is preferred. Candidates must pass a background check, drug screen, and physical exam, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and trustworthiness.

The Medication Technician is responsible for safely assisting residents with medication administration as ordered by the attending physician and in accordance with established nursing standards, Title 22 Regulations, community policies, and state requirements. This position ensures accurate medication documentation, maintains accountability of all resident medications, and promptly reports any changes in resident condition or medication status to the appropriate supervisor.
Duties: and Responsibilities:
1. Assists residents with daily medications, treatments, and personal care within the scope of practice and according to policy, procedure, and Title 22 Regulations.
2. Observes residents to ensure medications are taken as directed; documents any refusals or missed doses with reasons and notifies the supervisor or Executive Director.
3. Maintains accurate, complete, and confidential medication and care records in accordance with established procedures and state law.
4. Keeps medication carts, rooms, and related areas clean, organized, properly stocked, and secured at all times.
5. Assists caregivers as needed and performs caregiver duties when required.
6. Coordinates medication services with residents, physicians, and pharmacies. Verifies all new or changed medications and dosages with the prescribing physician prior to administration.
7. Monitors and tracks medication orders, changes, and refills to ensure continuity of care.
8. Performs narcotic counts at the beginning and end of each shift; immediately reports discrepancies the appropriate supervisor.
9. Prepares medications for administration in accordance with community policy and state regulations.
10. Communicate effectively with physicians, residents, family members, and staff regarding medication or health status as appropriate.
11. Carries a radio or pager as assigned to ensure timely response to resident needs and emergencies.
12. Demonstrates knowledge of common medical terminology, abbreviations, and symbols related to medication administration.
13. Follows all infection control and safety protocols, including hand hygiene, universal precautions, and bloodborne pathogen procedures.
14. Maintains current licensure or certification as required by state regulations.
15. Reports occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, or hazardous substances per company policy.
16. Complies with all mandated reporting requirements under California law, immediately reporting any known or suspected abuse of dependent adults or elders.
17. Support community marketing efforts through professional and friendly interactions during property tours and phone inquiries.
18. Communicate any observed or suspected resident changes in condition to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
19. Maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents, and guests by following established safety standards and procedures.
20. Promote teamwork through cooperative and respectful interactions with co-workers and other departments.
21. Work a flexible schedule as needed to support events, tours, and community outreach.
22. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum, high school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in assisted living/memory care preferred.
CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant), Certificate in Assistance of Self-Administration of Medications Preferred.

Must be highly confidential and work as a team with other staff. Applicants should be sensitive to clients’ needs.
Walk, sit or stand for long periods of time. Reach, bend, climb, stoop, lift up to 50 lbs. repetitive hand movement; use and view PC.
Applicants must successfully pass a pre-screening tuberculin skin test or x-ray and a urine drug screen test. Candidates will be required to undergo a physical to ensure health is adequate to perform all duties of the position. Applicants must complete application and authorization form, both must be submitted to Human Resources prior to the close date indicated. Applicants will be required to undergo a background check consisting of fingerprinting and criminal records check with DOJ and FBI, and provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
