Responsible for cleaning, assembling, disinfecting, and sterilizing all medical equipment, supplies, and instruments. Operates large sterilization equipment and ensures proper care of surgical instrumentation.
Requires a high school diploma and at least one year of experience in the OR or Central Sterilization. Must obtain sterile processing certification within 18 months of hire.
Under the direct supervision of the Manager and the Coordinator/Charge Nurse, the Central Sterilization Technician is responsible for cleaning, assembling, disinfecting and sterilizing all equipment, supplies and/or instruments.
The Sterile Processing Technician must have a high school diploma or equivalent, possess at least one year experience in the OR or Central Sterilization. The Sterile Technician must have a basic understanding of aseptic technique, knowledge of sterilization principles, processing techniques and instrument/equipment care. The Tech must be certified in sterile processing by an accredited organization required by eighteen (18) months. The Sterile Technician must be able to adapt to a repetitive, short cycle operation, have some ability to operate large equipment, to disassemble and assemble instruments and possess some familiarity with surgical instrumentation.
