Sterile Processing/Scope Reprocessing Technic (4258) ESC

SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Manager and the Coordinator/Charge Nurse, the Central Sterilization Technician is responsible for cleaning, assembling, disinfecting and sterilizing all equipment, supplies and/or instruments.

Preferred qualifications

The Sterile Processing Technician must have a high school diploma or equivalent, possess at least one year experience in the OR or Central Sterilization. The Sterile Technician must have a basic understanding of aseptic technique, knowledge of sterilization principles, processing techniques and instrument/equipment care. The Tech must be certified in sterile processing by an accredited organization required by eighteen (18) months. The Sterile Technician must be able to adapt to a repetitive, short cycle operation, have some ability to operate large equipment, to disassemble and assemble instruments and possess some familiarity with surgical instrumentation.

Physical guidelines

• Physical guidelines include the ability to move, traverse, position self, remain in a stationary position and negotiate steps for up to eight hours per day; light lifting, pulling or pushing of carts, equipment, etc.
• Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds, push and/or pull equipment up to 100 pounds.
• Must be able to bend body downward at the waist; be able to kneel.
• Must have visual acuity at least 20 inches or less.
• Must be able to identify and distinguish colors.
• Must have ability to coordinate eyes and hands accurately.
• Must have ability to manipulate small objects accurately.
• Must be able to perceive objects accurately as to size, temperature and texture.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
