About the role

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing various blood collections and processing specimens within the Central Collection department. They must ensure strict adherence to laboratory protocols, quality assurance guidelines, and regulatory standards such as CAP and JCAHO.

Overview PRN, work as needed The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the operation, organization of the Central Collection department and for carrying out the philosophy and objectives established by the Board of Directors and the Management Team.

Foremost among these responsibilities are strictly adhering to detail in the performance of laboratory procedures, solving practical problems, resolving conflict, and implementing constructive change.

Responsibilities

Performs venous, arterial and capillary blood collection, processing and delivery of specimens to departments within Trinity Laboratory. Consistently demonstrates attention to detail in following protocol for patient, sample and identification and labeling. Educates others and maintains knowledge of departmental functions, policies and procedures including AIDET and Focus value. Assists with the training new employees, being helpful supportive in the teaching of new associates. Complies with procedures and services, including QA guidelines, in consultation with the assigned laboratory supervisor. Performs technical procedures within specified turnaround time for assigned area. Is responsible for executing and monitoring technical practices of the department in order to meet necessary standards, recommendations and requirements of voluntary and government agencies (ie. CAP, JCAHO)

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy course, Medical Assistant, Associate of Arts, preferred.

Experience

  • Experience with phlebotomy, preferred.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Communication skills including reading, writing & speaking fluent english, Adaptability, customer/patient focused, Interpersonal skills and Self-development.

  • Requirements: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. *Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, skills, internal equity, and other business needs. The salary range listed does not include other forms of compensation which may include bonuses/incentive, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits that may be applicable to this role.

Requirements

A high school diploma is required, while a phlebotomy course, Medical Assistant certification, or Associate of Arts degree is preferred. Candidates should have phlebotomy experience and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
