The technologist prepares and administers radio-isotopes and contrast media to patients for diagnostic procedures. They operate PET and CT scanners while ensuring strict adherence to radiation safety and NRC regulations.
Candidates must be graduates of an AMA accredited school for Nuclear Medicine and Radiographic Technology with relevant certifications. Three years of Nuclear Medicine experience and one year of PET CT experience are required.
The PET/CT Technologist prepares and administers high energy short acting radio-isotopes, and sometimes contrast media, supplied by manufacturers, to patients in preparation for diagnostic procedures. The technologist prepares and positions patients for scanning and operates the PET scanner, CT scanner, Dose calibrators, radiation detectors, and radiopharmaceutical tracking software. The technologist is responsible for performing radiation safety and quality control procedures, disposal of radioactive materials, and monitoring work area and patient rooms to ensure that the levels of radioactive materials are in accordance with NRC regulations. May be required to work in other modalities with appropriate licensure.
