Provide non-clinical support and assistance with activities of daily living for individuals experiencing homelessness in a medical respite program. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean environment, preparing meals, and monitoring recipient conditions to notify the care team of changes.
Requires a high school diploma and certification as a CNA, HHA, or PCW, or one year of experience serving homeless populations or residents in licensed facilities. Candidates must hold CPR and First Aid certifications and be able to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds.

Mercy Haven is proud to open Long Island's first Medical Respite Program this spring in Bay Shore. This 10-bed program will provide short-term, recuperative care for individuals experiencing homelessness or unstable housing who are recovering from or preparing for surgery.

The Respite Support Staff provides assistance to recipient's nonclinical needs including providing minimal assistance with ADLs and conferring with recipients care team, providing a safe, supportive and clean environment for recipients in medical respite program
Position responsibilties: · Provide general safe, supportive, environment for recipients in medical respite program
· Monitoring and providing guidance to assist recipient in performing basic activities of daily living
· Notify care team and Administrator of any changes or unusual conditions of recipients or of emergencies
· Maintain knowledge of general whereabouts of each recipient, recording daily census and daily wellness checks
· Prepare and serve 3 meals and 2 snacks per day
· Daily cleaning of medical respite program
· Launder linens of program
· Observe, monitor and record recipients' conditions, including incident documentation
· Conduct monthly fire drills as assigned
· Adhere to Mercy Haven and DOH policies, procedures and regulations
· All other relevant duties as assigned
Position requirements: · High School Diploma or equivalency
· Current or prior registration as a certified nurse assistant, home health aide, or personal care worker; or one year of experience in the provision of services to persons experiencing homelessness or adults residing in a facility subject to licensure and oversight by the Department, OPWDD, OMH, or OASAS
· Electronic Health Record experience preferred
Sits, stands, stoops, squats, walks, and moves intermittently during work hours, may push or pull 10-15 pounds daily, may push or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally
· CPR and First Aide Certification required
· Successful completion of annual Physical and PPD
Reports to: Administrator
Schedule: Sunday-Monday 7am-3pm
Friday-Saturday 3pm-11pm
Sunday-Tuesday (Overnight) 11pm-7am
Friday-Saturday(Overnight) 11pm-7am
$18.50 per hour
