Perform microbial detection testing on core and ortho samples using DNA/RNA extraction and qPCR techniques. Responsible for instrument maintenance, QA/QC documentation, and reporting results for clinical samples.

Description Job Summary

The Laboratory Technologist I (CORE-ORTHO) is responsible for performing testing on all the core and ortho samples that arrive in the laboratory for microbial detection. They will ensure that Ortho study samples are processed properly and track the acceptability of the specimens received. Adheres to all company policies and procedures, and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

Duties/Responsibilities

DNA/RNA extraction of clinical samples including host depletion Performance of Real-time qPCR and rtPCR on clinical samples for the detection of bacteria, fungi and viruses Performance of Biofire GI panels on clinical samples Maintaining instruments and cleaning laboratories Standard QA/QC documentation and activities Result reporting Reagent aliquoting Aiding in the development of tests including performing validation studies Aid in tracking the positivity rate for ortho samples Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities: Possess general clinical laboratory skills such as: pipetting, basic understanding of QA/QC activities, utilization of standard protocols, ability to critically think and troubleshoot, and proper specimen handling. Capable of working independently and with a group Excellent communication skills Superb teamwork and multitasking skills Organizational skills Basic computer skills including proficiency in MS Office Experience with DNA/RNA Extraction and real-time qPCR a plus; however, not required Experience with chemistry analyzers a plus; however, not required MLT, MLS, or MB license a plus; however, not required Education and Experience: Associate degree in Biological Sciences with 1 year of experience in all areas of specialty (bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology, virology). Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences Master’s degree in Biological Sciences
