The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for maintaining and decontaminating technical equipment and instruments to ensure smooth GI procedures. They provide essential support to nurses and physicians while assisting with patient transport and room preparation.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and obtain BLS certification and GI Technical Specialist validation within a specified timeframe. Prior medical experience and knowledge of medical terminology are considered helpful.
Preferred Qualifications: GI Associates skill validation test
Inspects and decontaminates by washing and maintaining endoscopes and other GI instruments per department protocols. Assists department personnel in changing linens, cleaning beds & procedure rooms. Assembles equipment as needed and changes suction tubing between each patient. Orders supplies approved by the manager & keeps procedure rooms stocked to par levels. Transports patients in & out of procedure rooms, and to inpatient rooms & discharge areas. Preserves skin integrity when providing patient care & transport. Understands hearing and visual impairments to protect patients from injury. Understands the complications associated with endoscope manipulation. Understands full view of the lumen must be seen by way of video screen during procedure. Demonstrates courtesy to patients, families, co-workers, and physicians. Maintains confidentiality to patient information. Directs questions to appropriate personnel. Responsible for personal continuing education. Wears PPE when appropriate, is fitted for TB mask, cleans BP cuffs after every patient use, washes hands per protocol and follows contact and isolation precautions. Each employee is responsible for implementing SJRMC’s Service Standards into their daily work Safety, Courtesy, Effectiveness, and Stewardship Other duties as assigned Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions: Recognize potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or hazardous materials, noxious/irritating fumes, long hours, and unforeseen conditions that might generate stress may be encountered. Must be able to see with corrective eyewear and hear clearly with assistance. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist frequently. Must be able to lift greater than fifty (50) pounds and push up to three hundred (300) pounds frequently.
