The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in supporting medical and behavioral health services, including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), Mental Health Skill-Building (MHSB), and Tele-health services. The CMA is responsible for assisting providers in clinical care, ensuring accurate documentation, and supporting compliance with behavioral health regulations in Virginia. Essential
Assist medical providers, including Nurse Practitioners, with vitals and documentation. Document vital signs, allergies, and medication lists accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Support the coordination and setup of tele-health appointments, ensuring proper technology access and documentation readiness. Maintain client records in compliance with DMAS and DBHDS regulations. Prepare and manage medication administration records (MARs), coordinate with pharmacies, and support MAT medication storage and documentation protocols. Communicate with clinical and case management teams to support integrated treatment plans across ACT and MHSB services. Assist in scheduling follow-up visits, lab appointments, referrals, and transportation as needed. Educate clients on treatment adherence, medication protocols, and assist in managing side effects in collaboration with providers. Monitor inventory of medical supplies and maintain cleanliness and safety of medical workspaces. Participate in care coordination meetings, staff huddles, and quality assurance activities.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program. Current CMA certification (AAMA, NCCT, or similar) required. CPR/BLS certification required. Minimum 1 year of experience in a behavioral health, MAT, or community health setting preferred. Familiarity with Virginia behavioral health service models, including ACT and MHSB, is a plus. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficient in using Electronic Health Records (EHR); knowledge of systems such as Athena, Credible, or similar preferred. Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (for field visits, if applicable). Work Environment: Hybrid work setting: in-office clinical support and virtual tele-health coordination. May require occasional travel to client homes or community settings for ACT-related services. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs, bend, and stand for extended periods.
