The Mixing Technician is responsible for accurately calculating and mixing chemotherapy and IV drugs according to provider orders. They also manage drug inventory control, medical supplies, and ensure compliance with safety and OSHA regulations.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and a current National Pharmacy Technician Certification. Preferred experience includes three to five years of pharmaceutical work and knowledge of chemotherapy safe handling.
SUMMARY: The Mixing Technician is primarily responsible for mixing chemotherapy, drug inventory control and medical supplies management according to the Coastal Cancer Center values. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reviews, evaluates, and assesses all orders and patient data with Registered Nurse or another mixing tech when co-signing for medications. Admixture signing, putting in appropriate volume and solution. Calculates chemotherapy dosages and mixes IV drugs in accordance with provider’s orders accurately. Demonstrates appropriate use of all required PPE for mixing chemotherapy. Ensures that all infectious waste is disposed of and stored according to OSHA regulations. Verifies dosages with RN prior to delivering chemotherapy for administration. Monitors inventory of drug inventory control cabinet, including restocking, drug assist and clinical trial patient medications. Manages all special order medications and orders on a per patient basis for location and treatment date on non returnable refrigerated items. Updates Lynx Mobile with new expiration dates, manufacturer information and NDC numbers timely. Communicates with drug inventory group when new manufacturer/NDC medication arrives so it can be added to Centricity and ARIA. Maintains DAP tracking and log in a timely manner. Communicates with team and takes action and follow through regarding drug recalls and shortages. Communicates the clinical needs of the department with team members and site coordinators timely and effectively. Coordinates and manages ordering, delivery and stocking of all clinical supplies. Handles high level of stress.
Education: High School education or equivalent.
