Perform radiographic procedures and operate imaging equipment under the direction of a radiologist to assist in medical diagnosis. Manage patient intake, collect medical histories, and guide patients safely through the imaging process.
Requires completion of a formal Radiography program and BLS certification, with ARRT registration required at hire or shortly thereafter. Previous experience in general radiology and customer service is preferred.
As part of the multidisciplinary team, under the direction of a radiologist, the radiology technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. They are responsible for performing technical procedures that may require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. They perform patient intake by collecting medical history and must be able to answer patient questions regarding the imaging procedure. They follow specific instructions from providers on what areas to image and guide patients through the imaging process safely and comfortably. In addition, they operate imaging equipment proficiently, have a firm understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human body, demonstrate knowledge of proper imaging techniques (i.e. positioning and technical factors) in special populations such as children, the elderly, and patients with debilitating conditions and may confer with providers on the results of imaging tests and collaborate to determine whether additional images are required.
