Perform and evaluate technical procedures to analyze blood, body fluids, and tissues in a clinical laboratory setting. Responsibilities include specimen collection, processing, and maintaining equipment while adhering to hospital and regulatory policies.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in medical technology or equivalent and certification from an approved agency such as ASCP, NCA, AMT, or CSMLS. Preferred candidates have 6 months to 1 year of experience in an acute care facility.
30p with weekend rotation in Blood Bank Medical Lab Scientists perform various tests to analyze the blood, body fluids and tissues as ordered by Healthcare personnel. Under the general supervision of departmental section supervisors and/or lead techs, precisely and accurately orders, performs and evaluates technical procedures in the different subsections of the clinical laboratory department. Properly collects blood specimens ensuring patient safety and consistency with age-specific considerations for all patients, neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics as well as employees. Receives, processes, and distributes specimens appropriately and in a timely manner. Properly stores specimens for further testing, as needed. Assists with the training of new employees and students. Maintains equipment and supply inventory. Adheres to laboratory and hospital policies (i.e. attendance, continuing education, dress code, infection control, and patient confidentiality) and procedures. Maintains knowledge and practices current regulatory guidelines. Prepares and participates in processes relating to regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CAP and AABB. Follows best practice for infection control in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
