About the role

The OR Tech is responsible for preparing surgical rooms, maintaining aseptic techniques, and passing instruments to surgeons during procedures. They also assist in cleaning rooms post-surgery and managing surgical supplies and equipment.

  • Passes instruments on all procedures or acts as an assistant and hold retractors as needed.
  • Practices aseptic technique.
  • Assist in preparation of room prior to surgery and cleaning room after surgery.
  • Assists staff and surgeons to insure instruments, supplies, and equipment are available when needed for surgical procesures.
  • Has two (2) years experience in the Operating Room as a scrub tech.
  • Works in instrument room as needed.
  • Takes assigned call as required.
  • Exhibits knowledge of age specific needs of patients of all psychosocial, and/or cultural backgrounds.
  • Integrally involved and participates with cost containment issues in the Operating Room.

Qualifications

  • Requires the completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program (CST or TS-C) or the candidate must provide documented proof of previous (before September 1, 2009) employment as a surgical technologist Must have current CST or TS-C certification or be a LVN or provide proof of employment as a practicing surgical technologist in a health care facility before September 1, 2009.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting Must be able to read and comprehend information related to perioperative operations within the job class.
  • Minimum computer literacy in keyboarding and Microsoft windows.
  • Communicate effectively, identify and address the special needs of patients of all age groups.

Requirements

Candidates must have completed an accredited Surgical Technician program with current CST or TS-C certification or be an LVN. A minimum of two years of experience as a scrub tech in an Operating Room and BLS certification are required.
