The COTA performs therapeutic interventions and contributes to assessments under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. Responsibilities include documenting patient responses, following physician protocols, and participating in multidisciplinary care conferences.
Candidates must hold an associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program. An active, non-conditional Occupational Therapy Assistant license from the Iowa Department of Public Health is required.
Carries out the plan of care established and supervised by the Occupational Therapist. Participates in multidisciplinary care conferences. Communicates progress with plan of care to the Occupational Therapist. Documents patient response to treatment according to standards and regulations. Follows physician protocols and the Occupational Therapist's goals/objectives. Suggests assistive devices in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist. Arranges for equipment needs related to age/size of client. Participates in quality improvement activities. Communicates - both veral and written - effectively, clearly and concisely. Demonstrates effective time management skills.
Education: Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program Certificate/License: An active, non-conditional Occupational Therapy Assistant license issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health via the Iowa Bureau of Professional Licensure is required.
