The Research Technologist III will perform advanced molecular, cellular, and microbiological experiments to study lung infections and inflammation. Responsibilities include maintaining cell cultures, optimizing 3D models, and contributing to scientific publications and grant materials.
Requires a bachelor's degree in a scientific major with 3 years of lab experience, or a master's degree with 1 year of experience. Candidates must possess strong organizational skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to communicate effectively in English.
Dr. Boyne’s Lab investigates how infections and inflammation develop in the lungs, with a particular focus on host-microbial interactions that shape the airway microbiome in cystic fibrosis (CF). Using airway epithelial cell models, bacterial cultures, 3D cell culture and organoid-based systems, and patient-derived samples such as exhaled breath condensate and sputum, the lab works to uncover mechanisms that drive disease and identify potential therapeutic targets. In this role, the Research Technologist III will support ongoing studies by performing a variety of advanced molecular, cellular, and microbiological experiments. Responsibilities include maintaining airway epithelial cell cultures, supporting the development and optimization of 3D culture and organoid models, conducting assays such as transfection, bacterial adherence and internalization, PCR, western blotting, immunofluorescence, and other cell-based assays, and assisting with advanced data analysis and troubleshooting. The position will also involve developing, adapting, and optimizing new laboratory protocols as research needs evolve. Additional responsibilities include preparing figures for presentations and publications, performing literature searches, contributing to manuscripts and grant materials, and helping manage lab supplies and inventory. Job Responsibilities: 1. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 3 years' lab/bench or other relevant experience required; OR Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 1 year lab/bench or other relevant experience. 2. Working knowledge of computers, ability to troubleshoot, work independently, and function as a team member is essential. Therefore, experience in regular interaction with outside groups is highly desirable. 3. Excellent command of the English language and the ability to communicate effectively. 4. Strong organizational skills including the ability to establish priorities, react promptly to a large variety of requests, and the ability to keep the workplace clean and organized.
