- Under the direction of the Radiology Director, and Radiologist.
- Performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail.
- Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis.
- Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.
- Operates Mammography Equipment to make quality Images / radiographs of designated body parts, utilizing the lowest possible radiation dose.
- Responsibilities include knowledge of all Mammography procedures, proper patient positioning, exposures, Utilization of PACS, implementation of patient charges, and assists physicians as required.
Responsibilities
- Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions 1. Under the direction of a radiologist, produces high quality mammograms.
- Performs mammography / Radiology procedures according to departmental protocols.
- Positions patient and provides immobilization and positioning devices as needed.
- Selects proper technical factors on an individual basis.
- Performs routine and special views as needed. 2. Assures Image Quality meets all departmental and Hospital standards.
- Monitor images produced and adjust density or contrast to improve image quality.
- Review and evaluate film to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
- Prepares all appropriate paperwork for interpretation.
- Participate in all Mammography related QI, QA, and QC activities as required.
- Documents patient mammogram services by completing patient records, generating charge slips as needed. 3. Provides for patient and personal safety.
- Greets patients by confirming patient identification; reviewing imaging request; checking for special instructions; confirming anticipated services with patients.
- Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques; using beam restrictive devices; applying knowledge of exposure factors.
- Ensures operation of mammography equipment by following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; notifies supervisor if repairs are needed.
- Uses proper body mechanics when lifting is required.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with federal and state legal regulations and Joint Commission requirements. 4. Strives to reduce patient stress about exam, educates patient concerning procedure.
- Explain procedures to patients and answers all patient questions.
- Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, demonstrates comforting, professional demeanor.
- Demonstrates equipment and its uses to the patient.
- Educates patient about breast self-exam 5. PACS
- Completes all exams timely in PACS and EMR
- Properly performs procedure for making patient CD’s, as well as verifies all information is on all CD’s before given out.
- Verify that written physician order matches order in PACS.
- Verifies all images are in PACS, scans any required documentation, and adds any additional information in notes section as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required: Education: High school diploma or equivalent, Graduate of an Accredited Diagnostic Imaging Program, ARRT in Radiology License, Certification and/or Registration:ARRT(R) Required, ARRT(M) RequiredBLS must be obtained during orientation period Experience: Minimum of one-year clinical experience in direct patient care setting preferred. Requires proficiency at a technical level not requiring constant direct supervision in Mammography Additional Skills/Abilities:Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing task frequently and quickly.Must be able to work in a team environment.Must be able to use a computer terminal, fax machine, and copy machine.
