The Phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining blood and other specimens from a variety of patient populations for laboratory testing. This includes preparing skin sites, performing punctures using aseptic techniques, and handling the transport and clerical duties associated with the lab.
Candidates must have a High School diploma or GED and strong communication and computer skills. Preferred qualifications include Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT), CPR certification, and experience with Epic or similar electronic medical record systems.
Weekends Only The Phlebotomist obtains blood and other specimens from inpatients, outpatients, ED patients, extended care facility patients, physician office patients, clinic patients, and any other offsite location patients for laboratory testing according to licensed physician’s or provider’s orders. In doing so, obtains needed supplies, verifies patient identification, prepares skin sites, and performs venipuncture and skin punctures according to established aseptic techniques. Labels specimens and transports same to laboratory for analysis. Performs clerical and/or computer duties associated with the laboratory. Duties may vary by assigned area and/or shift.
License/Certifications: CPR Certification through the American Heart Association Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT) Experience: 6 months in a team orientated environment or customer service role Completion of formal structured phlebotomy program OR 3 months’ full-time phlebotomy experience or equivalent. Experience working with an electronic medical record system, such as Epic Maintain composure while working under pressure; ability to perform job duties with frequent interruptions and/or distractions Other requirements/information: Positive, professional attitude and demeanor OSF HealthCare is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
