The Surgical Technician organizes and maintains the daily functions of the operating room according to safety and accreditation standards. They provide direct and indirect patient care while assisting physicians and anesthesia personnel during surgical procedures.
Candidates should ideally have 2 years of operating room experience and a BLS certification. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, along with proficiency in medical office software and standard surgical instruments.
Surgical Technician assists in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established federal, state and accreditation standards and facility policies and procedures. Assists the nurses and physicians in delivering the highest standard of patient care available. Roles and Responsibilities To utilize specialized knowledge of surgical techniques while giving direct and indirect patient care. Assists in set-up of operating room with all necessary equipment and supplies. Assists with the preparation, transportation, and monitoring of patients. Provides assistance to team members, physicians, and anesthesia personnel as needed (i.e. reliability, initiative, work relations, training needs). Reviews physicians' preference cards and updates as needed. Ability to handle stress associated with prioritizing multiple tasks. Selects equipment and supplies in an organized, cost effective and timely manner. Performs other tasks as assigned. Experience Requirements 2 years of operating room experience preferred Effective communication skills; oral and written Familiarity with standard surgical instruments and equipment Knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, and Medical office software Strong organization skills Self-Motivated with problem-solving skills Education Requirements High school diploma or GED preferred BLS Certification required Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
