Responsibilities

Reports to Unit Management. Responsible for the written records and reports which comprise the patient's medical record for each hospital admission/visit, processes all physicians orders; maintains chart forms for nursing personnel to record their observations on patient care; files reports from ancillary departments pertaining to each patient. Functions as a Monitor Tech. May schedule appointments, cases, and add-ons; may enter charges for services. Also accountable for maintaining open communication between nursing staff, physician, inter-departmental personnel and the patient. Departmental Administrative Support: Consistently performs clerical duties with little or no supervision. Displays resourcefulness in the completion of daily tasks and special projects. Provides clerical support as needed to facilitate the smooth operation of the unit. Processes payroll accordingly. Maintains a clean and safe and ergonomic environment, maintains equipment, reports malfunctioning and orders service as necessary. Extra equipment and supplies are removed. Broken equipment or furniture is promptly reported to appropriate department for repair. Cooperates with reassignments in the interest of patient care. Adapts work schedule to meet the needs of the unit. Ensures adequate staffing needs are met through willingness to float. Order Entry: Enters orders for proper tests for ancillary departments such as Lab, X-Ray, EKG, and Dietary, as noted on the patient's chart. Proficient in computer usage relative to all guest/patient transactions. Activities are coordinated with minimal delay or disruption of service. Selects patients correctly. Cancels orders. Displays results successfully. Prints selected data/lists correctly. Guest Relations: Directs internal and external customers in the desk area to their proper destination. Interacts with all guests, coworkers and other departments in a courteous and efficient manner. Shows good judgment and independent thinking. Acknowledges individuals that enter the work area. Identifies ways to assists the individual. Provides assistance with directions. Assists with finding resources on the patient care area. Patient Chart Preparation and Maintenance: Prepares patient chart upon admission/visit and maintains chart as appropriate. (Admission, Transfer, Discharge, Preoperative, Postoperative). Files materials as requested in patient charts (e.g. care plans, lab reports etc.); thins charts according to established time frames and procedures. Organizes, checks for completeness and flags accordingly. Forwards final chart to Medical Records or copies chart as requested and forwards to appropriate personnel. Charts should be disassembled and down to Medical Records within 24 hours. Performs all tasks associated with maintaining accurate patient census: Demonstrates timely updating of patient information into the computer system. Accept transfers and admissions. Call Admitting. Update census board. Communicates with staffing office. Supply Maintenance: All shifts are responsible for ordering and maintaining supplies for adequate availability to staff and guests/patients. Ensures supplies are sufficient. Orders supplies within established limitations and according to established guidelines. Nurse's station is consistently well stocked. Identifies forms and supply items needed in patient care area. Verifies amount of supplies available for use. Prepares requisitions for replacement supplies. Verifies supplies received are supplies ordered. Restocks the supply areas when received. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications: Education,

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required: High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs. Successful completion of the Hackensack Meridian Health Monitor Tech exam within 90 days of hire. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms. Education,

Preferred: Nursing Unit Secretary and/or Monitor Tech experience. Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the heart. Licenses and Certifications Required: BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification. Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or GED and BLS AHA certification, with a requirement to pass the HMH Monitor Tech exam within 90 days. Experience as a Nursing Unit Secretary or Monitor Tech and knowledge of cardiac anatomy are preferred.
