Provide highly competent patient care and treatment within the Resource Intensive Care Unit while demonstrating empathy and clinical expertise. Lead quality improvement initiatives, mentor new staff, and collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure holistic, patient-centered care.
Requires a Registered Nurse license and a minimum of two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in Critical Care. A BSN is preferred, and candidates must obtain or maintain a UPMC-approved nursing certification or hold a postgraduate degree.
Identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and workplace enhancement. Apply evidence-based practice consistently in professional nursing care. Serve on or lead teams that implement innovations in patient care and promote a healthy workforce. Act as a role model for professional nursing practice by demonstrating leadership in areas such as: Clinical expertise Teaching and mentoring Serving as a specialized resource nurse Advancing evidence-based practice Provide constructive feedback to healthcare team members and participate in nursing peer review. Promote and lead change initiatives that improve patient care quality and unit environment. Demonstrate advanced clinical assessment and analytical skills within the framework of Relationship-Based Care. Actively participate in shared governance at the unit level and contribute to hospital-wide councils. Mentor and precept students, graduate nurses, and new hires with enthusiasm and expertise. Analyze clinical and behavioral situations to identify learning opportunities for improving patient care. Seek and apply feedback for continuous professional growth. Support ongoing learning by sharing research, presenting educational materials, and fostering journal clubs. Apply the nursing process to create holistic, patient-centered care plans that involve patients as partners. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care teams; advocate for changes in care and unit practices. Ensure comprehensive documentation that facilitates communication among caregivers. Demonstrate critical thinking in addressing clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual patient needs. Incorporate organizational and national standards to enhance patient safety, quality, and satisfaction. Build compassionate, healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. Foster a healthy workplace by promoting cultural awareness and addressing issues such as horizontal violence. Maintain work-life balance through prioritization and delegation of responsibilities.
Annual completion of a professional contributions selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by Unit Director OR UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained. OR Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Registered Nurse (RN) *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
