The provider will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and chronic pain through comprehensive assessments and interventional procedures. They are responsible for developing individualized treatment plans and collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Requires a Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and current licensure as an RN and NP. Must possess a DEA permit and national board certification in a relevant primary or acute care specialty.
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including history, physical exams, and diagnostic reviews related to pain conditions. Assist or perform interventional pain procedures such as nerve blocks, epidural injections, radiofrequency ablations, spinal cord stimulator trials, and other minimally invasive techniques under physician supervision or independently where allowed. Develop and implement evidence-based pain management treatment plans, including medication management, physical therapy referrals, and complementary therapies. Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly to optimize pain relief and functional improvement. Educate patients and families on pain conditions, treatment options, procedural expectations, and self-care strategies. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, physical therapists, psychologists, and pharmacists to coordinate care. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in compliance with regulatory and institutional standards. Stay current with advancements in pain management techniques, guidelines, and regulations through continuing education and professional development. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to research or clinical trials related to pain management. Adhere to all legal and ethical standards related to prescribing controlled substances and pain management. Qualifications Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred. Specialized training or certification in pain management and interventional pain procedures preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as a Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC), Adult (ANP-C) Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
