Townsen Memorial is hiring for a Registered Nurse, Emergency Room Night Shift to join our team at our Houston, Texas location 77072! SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse, Emergency Room is responsible for receiving patients to the clinical area and providing nursing care to the emergency room patient. Additionally, providing direct patient care and developing nursing care plans specifically designed for the individual patient.
Essential functions
Ensure the emergency room and patient care areas always have a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients
Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant
Ensure supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order
Admit the patient to the unit and prepares him/her for the admitting or emergent procedures
Make initial assessment and determines the nursing needs of the patient, communicates additional discharge needs when applicable in conjunction with the emergency room physician
Explain nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety
Identify patient’s physical and mental status
Monitor the patient’s medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or emergency room physician
Assure any procedure or surgical consent, pre-operative test results and History and Physical are in the medical record prior to any proposed procedure as applicable
Assist with transferring of patients out of the facility; knowledgeable of EMTALA rules and requirements
Report any important health history facts to the emergency physician/medical director
Educate patients and family, provide patients and family members emotional support as necessary
Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff
Utilize and maintain clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration)
Demonstrate clinical problem solving and critical thinking, make decisions using an evidence based analytical approach
Plan for routine events and anticipates/prevents and manages/evaluates emergent situations
Use downtime efficiently, aware of team members workload, responds positively to requests for assistance from other team members throughout the facility

Ability to adequately plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition
Practice nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and accepts responsibility and accountability for own actions
Excellent, professionally polished patient interaction skills and ability to practice collaborative nursing
Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes
High stress tolerance: accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations

Education and experience
Associate’s degree in nursing
Two (2) years of experience in an supervisor capacity acute care environment
Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified
