The Test Counselor provides education and counseling for HIV/HCV and other infectious diseases within a correctional environment. Responsibilities include conducting pre- and post-test counseling, collecting blood samples, and facilitating health awareness groups.
A high school diploma and phlebotomy competency are required, along with current CPR certification. Preference is given to candidates with three or more years of clinical experience and DPH training.

The Test Counselor plays a critical role in the prevention, education, and management of infectious diseases within the correctional environment. This position is responsible for providing patient education on HIV/HCV, and other infectious diseases of public health concern. The Test Counselor is also responsible for counseling patients via participation in the incarcerated education programs, opt out, voluntary pre- and post-test counseling, and testing. This position collaboratively interacts with nursing and medical staff, security staff, administrative staff, and support staff at all levels, seeking advice and channeling information through site-based ID Case Managers.
