The Lactation Consultant provides specialized breastfeeding support and education for prenatal and postnatal mothers and infants in hospital and clinic settings. Responsibilities include developing evidence-based feeding plans and maintaining compliance with Baby Friendly policies.
Candidates must hold a current Oklahoma or multistate RN license and be an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Current BLS certification is also required.
30pm| PG13| Weekly earned wage access is an option for this position.
The certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a clinical expert in human lactation and breastfeeding. The lactation consultant provides specialized lactation service in the hospital and clinic setting. You are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patients’ lactation needs to ensure the highest level of lactation support and education for prenatal and postnatal mothers and infants.
1. Make clinical assessments and use current lactation theories and research to develop evidence-based feeding plans that address individual feeding issues.
2. Identify and establish the lactation and educational needs of the prenatal and postnatal mother and infant.
3. Provide breastfeeding education and support to outpatient and inpatient, prenatal and postnatal mothers and infants, including follow-up via telephone calls, consultations, letters, and scheduling appointments.
4. Coordinate the delivery of care to pregnant and breastfeeding patients, including scheduling consultations, coordinating referrals, and assisting with resources and orders for breast pumps.
5. Facilitate communication and collaboration between healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
6. Implement, maintain, and provide staff education on Baby Friendly policies, procedures, and practices.
7. Maintain responsibility for the Baby Friendly initiative, ensuring compliance and quality standards are met.
8. Support ongoing quality improvement in lactation services through staff training, patient education, and consistent application of Baby Friendly practices.
9. Work as RN PRN, providing clinical nursing support when needed.
10. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
