The RN serves as an expert in the insertion, care, and maintenance of peripheral and central venous access devices. They also respond to medical activations as a recorder and provide leadership through mentoring and quality improvement efforts.
Requires a current RN license, BLS certification, and a nursing degree, with a bachelor's degree required within a specific timeframe for associate degree holders. One year of applicable RN or LPN experience is preferred.
The Vascular Access Resource RN is an expert in nursing vascular access device insertion as well as care and maintenance of venous access devices. Routine tasks include ultrasound-guided insertion of peripheral IVs and phlebotomy, sterile insertions of PICCs and midline catheters, as well as care and maintenance for inpatient central lines. Resource RNs respond to overhead medical activations in the role of recorder and are a resource for the Department of Nursing related to care and troubleshooting of peripheral and central venous access. They conduct their work according to policies, procedures, and evidence-based best practices.
This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
