Provide safe preoperative and postoperative care for surgical and endoscopy patients while administering injections and infusions. Manage blood products and coordinate patient education and care plans in the PACU and infusion clinic.
Must be a graduate of an accredited RN program and registered with the Kentucky Board of Nursing. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and PALS, with up to one year of related experience preferred.
Completes admission interviews and establishes nursing priorities with patient’s plan of care. Receives, transcribes, and executes physician orders and communicates to others, as needed, for continuity of care. Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including instruction to the patient, family, and others, as identified. Administers prescribed medications and treatments and patient specific cares to patient in accordance with approved nursing techniques. Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents throughout the progression of care. Cross training to PACU and call pickup in PACU is expected with this position. Other duties may be assigned. Excellent IV skills helpful. Perform outpatient infusions to include blood transfusion, antibiotics, iron infusions and some specialty drugs. Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse. Qualifications
