The technician monitors patient heart rhythms on telemetry screens and communicates changes to the department. They are also responsible for managing telemetry equipment inventory and submitting related charges and records.
A high school diploma is required, with a preference for medical terminology coursework or an EKG technician program. Competency in cardiac rhythm interpretation is required, and hospital experience is preferred.
Observes patient's rhythms on telemetry monitors, continually assesses patient's baseline rhythm and communicates any changes according to department procedures. Maintains inventory of telemetry and cardiac monitoring supplies, tracks telemetry transmitters, assesses and reports any system malfunctions or equipment breakdowns. Submits telemetry charges and submits all appropriate records as assigned.
