Requires a high school diploma or GED and current CPR or BLS certification. Preference is given to candidates with an RPSGT credential, two years of college, or 1-2 years of experience in polysomnography.
Job Summary: A Polysomnographic Technician I is an entry to mid-level position in the Sleep Medicine Center. This position performs comprehensive sleep testing analysis and associated interventions under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., and/or PH.D) or designee. Has the ability to complete administrative tasks as well as technical duties. This is a technical position with no supervisory responsibilities but may be responsible for assisting with orientation of new technologists. Job Responsibilities: 1. Reviews history, physical information, medication, procedure request, and study protocol. 2. Calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment. Selects amplifier settings, obtains quality data, and analyzes data during recordings. 3. Explains test procedures and orients patients/families using age appropriate guidelines. 4. Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and makes adjustments if necessary. 5. Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct and document artifact. 6. Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting. 7. Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changed in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of Polysomnographic results. 8. Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.) 9. Assist with scoring sleep/wake stages and scoring clinical events (such as respiratory events cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM standards. 10. Demonstrate ability to apply knowledge to different testing situations within polysomnography. 11. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others. 12. Performs other job functions as assigned.
