Certified Ophthalmic Technician - Main Campus

• What You Will Do Assists healthcare providers in the ambulatory setting.
• Obtain patient past and present ocular and general medical history.
• Perform visual acuity.
• Perform diagnostic testing, including, but not limited to refractometry, visual field testing, axial length, keratometry, corneal topography, pachymetry, intraocular pressure check, retinoscopy, and photography.
• Assist physician with minor office surgery.
• Provide other patient services and education as requested by the physicians.
• Takes responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment.
• Uses interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other customers Provides age specific care to patients from toddlers through elderly.
• Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
• Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Education High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and Recertification of COT through CMEs. (Required) Work Experience 2+ years prior experience as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant. (Required) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Demonstrated skill in interpersonal relationships. (Required proficiency) Ability to work independently in a high stress environment. (Required proficiency) Use of diagnostic and patient care equipment and general office equipment, including telephone, pager, and fax machines.
