• Purpose of this position: Under supervised direction of a board-certified pathologist, performs high-level tasks within surgical pathology to include simple to complex gross dissection, frozen section, and resident education in addition to general planning, evaluating, and coordinating of daily workflow. Responsibilities

Performs specimen gross examination Selects, dissects and submits tissue sections for microscopic examination Performs frozen sections Performs gross and microscopic photography Prepares and utilizes necessary materials for teaching, training and evaluation of students (pathology residents, non-pathology residents, and medical students) and technical staff Maintains specimen storage (both short and long term) to meet regulatory, legal and teaching requirements Performs intraoperative kidney biopsy adequacy service Collects data for and assesses quality indicators for surgical pathology Assist with oversight, testing, and optimization of laboratory information system workflows related to surgical pathology services Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory agencies standards Assists in the evaluation of equipment and instrumentation Writes procedures and provides technical direction as needed to staff Assists with billing and audits and assurance of compliance Demonstrates patient and family centered care behaviors
