The scribe accompanies physicians during patient exams to accurately transcribe histories, physical exams, and encounters. They are responsible for documenting diagnoses, symptoms, prescriptions, and patient orders in the EHR.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and a strong knowledge of medical terminology. Proficiency in computer applications and the ability to record physical exam details accurately are required.
Accompany physician into the patient examination room in order to transcribe history and physical exam and document accurately the physician’s encounter with the patient and physician present. List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician. Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc. Document any procedures performed by the physician. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of medical terminology is required. Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details. Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.
