Perform age-specific triage and comprehensive nursing assessments for emergency department patients to develop and implement care plans. Monitor critical patient responses, administer medications, and coordinate efficient transfers and discharges.
Requires a current Florida nursing license and certifications in BLS and ACLS, with PALS or ENPC obtained within three months. A minimum of one year of RN experience is required for Level II.
Summary: Part time and Full time available Position Responsibilities Emergency Room Services Responsibilities Knowledgeable of the EMTALA laws that govern transfer in and out of the Emergency Room. Demonstrates the ability to assess age specific safety issues for the Emergency Room patients. Demonstrates the ability to interpret age specific response for trauma patients. Documents discharge planning for all patients with a focus on the special discharge and after core needs of the population are served. Possesses the skill to successfully interpret EKG tracing (Arrhythmia recognition and management). Monitors, evaluates and documents patients response to vasoactive drug administration. Monitors and evaluates patients requiring pace maker management (external, internal and intravenous). Monitors evaluates and documents patients requiring mechanical ventilation. Is Knowledgeable of crisis intervention, verbal de-escalation and physical intervention (Mental Health Baker Act). Demonstrates the ability to assess physical abuse and suicidal risk factors. Interprets and evaluates arterial blood gas results. Monitors, evaluates, documents and troubleshoots patients hemodynamic response to plan of care within the Emergency Room setting. Assessment Performs Emergency Room age specific Triage assessment to include vital signs, assessment of chief complaint and notification of physician within 15 minutes of arrival to the Emergency Room Department. Obtains and documents a complete nursing admission assessment, including physiological and psychological factors to develop a plan of care. Performs and documents an accurate ongoing systems assessment. Responds to diagnostic data and initiates appropriate action or intervention. Assesses patient educational needs. Assesses psychosocial needs specific to patient's age, growth, and development. Planning Implements plan of care upon completion of assessment. Establishes priorities for patient care based on patient needs. Implementation Verbalizes understanding of patient diagnosis and plan of care. Safely and correctly initiates and documents nursing interventions in emergency situations. Administers, observes, and documents intravenous therapy according to hospital policy. Administers medications and observes effectiveness, recognizing and reporting adverse reactions immediately. Provides individualized instructions each shift to patient/significant other regarding the plan of care. Demonstrates safe and correct use of unit specific equipment. Ensures that each patient's general hygiene needs are met. Adheres to standard precaution guidelines at all times. Documents specific patient valuables on designated form when received and immediately arranges for appropriate storage. Performs dressing changes using aseptic technique. Collects and labels specimens per policy when ordered by physician. Performs bedside glucose monitoring according to policy. Administers internal feedings via ng tube, g tube, and/or j tube. Reports all abnormal findings immediately to physician. Initiates wound and skin care upon identification of wounds or skin breakdown. Inserts intermittent or indwelling urinary catheter using aseptic technique. Administers oxygen therapy according to physician order. Transfers patients in/out of the Emergency Room in an efficient manner, by obtaining a complete and correct set of physician's orders. Completes documentation of transfer summary and ensures appropriate completed referral forms accompany intra-facility transfers including giving/receiving of report. Demonstrates safe and correct use of restraints. Evaluation Documents/reports patient responses or outcomes resulting from: nursing interventions, treatments/procedures, interpersonal interactions, and patient/family education. Evaluates and documents patient's progress towards established goals/objectives to meet discharge criteria. Evaluates patient transfer/discharge planning needs based on anticipated problems, internal or community resources, and support systems. Professional and Staff Development Obtains 100% of mandatory hospital and unit specific inservice, annually, prior to evaluation date. Plans, presents, and documents unit inservice as required by level. Documents competency in clinical skills annually. Uses established lines of communication for resolution of problems and interpersonal conflict. Leadership Presents a minimum of 1 in-services and 2 patient care conference. Attends 75% staff meetings. Functions as a Charge Nurse, possesses clinical knowledge of all patients on the unit, triage and assigns beds to promote patient flow. Attends a Charge Nurse course. Serves as a preceptor/ clinical resource. Actively participates in unit based PI. Qualifications License/Registration/Certification Current License in the State of Florida. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate within 90 days of employment. BLS, ACLS required, PALS or ENPC within 3 months of hire. Education None Experience Level II: Min 1 year RN experience.
