Job summary

• Provides patient care services, cleans, maintains and stocks supplies and equipment and applies the principles of standard precautions and infection control in a variety of settings.
• The Technical Assistant demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate for the population assigned.
• The Technical Assistant will receive assignments as delegated by the RN.
• The Technical Assistant will be able to access data reflective of the patient’s status and report the information needed to identify each patient’s needs relative to this information.
• The Technical Assistant will provide care based on established policies and procedures.
• The Technical Assistant performs clerical, phlebotomy, safety attendant and other duties as assigned within their scope.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

1 year of relevant experience preferred. Previous healthcare experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure

Certification from Virginia Board of Nursing - preferred

Additional skills/Requirements required

Ability to communicate verbally and in written form.

Additional skills/Requirements preferred

Phlebotomy and medical terminology.

• Care: Provides and documents assistance to patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Assists/provides patient care throughout the entire patient experience under the direct supervision of the physician and/or the registered nurse.
• Assists in room turnaround, including appropriate cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment.
• Organizes supplies and equipment as needed.

• Expertise: Assists with patient care while complying with Department, Hospital, and Regulatory policies and procedures.
• Understands concepts of sterile and non-sterile techniques.

The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
