Responsible for collecting blood samples from patients using venipuncture or micro techniques and ensuring proper specimen transportation. The role involves verifying test requisitions and maintaining specimen integrity through aseptic techniques.
Requires a high school diploma or GED, completion of a phlebotomy program, and certification from agencies such as ASCP or AMT. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also required.
Under the leadership of the Manager, Clinical Laboratory, the Phlebotomist – Certified is an active member of the department that provides pathology and laboratory studies and analysis for the medical and nursing staff. The Phlebotomist – Certified is responsible for the collection of blood samples from patients by venipuncture or micro techniques. The Phlebotomist facilitates the collection and transportation of laboratory specimens.
• Education:
Requires a high school diploma or a GED state certification and the completion of a Phlebotomy program.
Requires and maintains a Phlebotomy certification from the ASCP, AMT, NCS., AAB or other approved agencies by the department.
Requires current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS). (If BLS verification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.)
