The Accessioning Technician is responsible for receiving, identifying, and preparing patient specimens for laboratory testing. This includes entering data into the LIS, maintaining storage areas for slides and blocks, and ensuring strict adherence to quality and compliance standards.
A Bachelor of Science degree and a minimum of one year of experience are required. Candidates must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
The Accessioning Technician is responsible for opening, identifying specimens, entering data into the Laboratory Information System, preparing specimens for testing, and transporting specimens to the correct department in the laboratory.
Assist with resolving accessioning issues to include, but not limited to, requisition discrepancies missing information and/or other accessioning related client issues. Receive specimens from multiple daily deliveries, auditing delivery and signing packages. Accession patient specimens according to Company’s standard operating procedures, with strict adherence to our Quality Assurance standards Review, understand and execute customer-specific requirements for order entry Accurately and efficiently data enter required patient and specimen information into the LIS system. Prepare laboratory specimens for testing, labeling specimens accurately. Maintain adequate departmental inventory. Adhere to and uphold all applicable federal and state compliance regulations as well as Company’s compliance policies and procedures, accrediting agency policies and procedures, and applicable healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse laws. Work closely with the Client Services team to resolve and escalate incomplete or unclear order issues and promote good customer service. Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Work effectively in a fast-paced high-volume environment. May be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, fumes, loud noises, and blood-borne pathogens. Must be able to work under stress and in a fast-paced environment. Emergent situations could extend working hours or require infrequent weekend work. Files all pathology slides and tissue block daily in the designated storage system. Maintains organization of slide and block storage areas at all times. Keeps accurate and documented chain of custody records for all specimens, slides, and blocks handled. Performs and documents daily humidity and temperature checks in the storage area to ensure proper environmental conditions.
A Bachelor of Science degree is required. If hired, you will be required to provide a copy of your college transcript.
