Functions as a member of the surgical team during operative procedures, specifically within orthopedic services. Responsible for the preparation, processing, and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.
Requires a high school diploma and two years of orthopedic experience as a Surgical Technologist in an ambulatory setting. Must hold an active American Heart Association CPR certification.
The Surgical Technician, in addition to assisting in the preparation, processing, care, and maintenance of instruments, supplies, and equipment, functions as a member of the surgical team during operative procedures, also functions in a specialty service, and utilizes and troubleshoots service implementation and equipment.
The individual must know aseptic technique and be able to scrub independently in orthopedic procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgeon, and have knowledge in the sequencing of the surgical procedures.
