Responsibilities

• Provide prescribed respiratory therapies (oxygen, aerosolized medications, chest physiotherapy) and monitor patient responses per orders.
• Assess respiratory status, interpret orders, adjust therapy within scope of practice, and document findings in the patient record.
• Collaborate with nursing and medical teams to implement and update individualized respiratory care plans.
• Maintain and sanitize respiratory equipment, perform routine calibrations, and enforce infection control practices.
• Respond to respiratory emergencies and participate in protocol-driven code responses as needed.
• Educate patients and families on therapy use, device management, and safety precautions; facilitate transitions of care when appropriate.

Requirements

• Active Virginia state license as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or eligible per state policy.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Demonstrated ability to perform respiratory care in a clinical setting; experience in skilled nursing or long-term care settings preferred.
• Strong clinical reasoning, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work the stated night shift and weekend rotation for the 13-week assignment.
