SUMMARY The Staff Pharmacist supports the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Pharmacy by ensuring safe, effective, and compliant pharmacy operations. Working with the Chief Pharmacist, clinical staff, and administration, they promote optimal medication use, expand access to quality care, and support preventative health services. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelors or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an ACPE accredited institution with demonstrated experience in distributive and clinical pharmacy services; and Current, unrestricted pharmacist license in the State of Michigan, or the eligibility and ability to obtain licensure prior to beginning employment; and Demonstrated expertise in pharmaceutical inventory management, including medication procurement, tracking, storage, and security; and Ability to interpret and communicate complex clinical, regulatory, information technology, quality standards and requirements to Pharmacy Department staff and administration; and Working knowledge of clinical, financial, and regulatory resources and reference materials, along with the ability to apply them appropriately in practice; and Excellent communication and patient education skills, with the ability to motivate patients and provide guidance on disease states, treatment goals, medication administration, usage, precautions, and proper storage.
Reviews prescriptions for accuracy and appropriateness while analyzing prescribing trends to support patient compliance and prevent excessive medication use or harmful drug interactions. Provides guidance and counseling to patients on drug interactions, side effects, dosing, expected therapeutic outcomes, and proper medication storage. Evaluates the identity, strength, and purity of medications to ensure quality and safety standards are met. Maintains and updates pharmacy records, including patient profiles, pharmacy files, inventory documentation, and controlled substance logs. Collaborates with healthcare professionals to develop, monitor, review, and evaluate medication therapies and treatment effectiveness, while providing expert guidance on drug applications and best practices. Oversees the procurement and management of pharmaceutical and medical supplies, ensuring accurate inventory control, proper storage and handling, and adherence to 340B drug pricing program requirements for medication acquisition and distribution. Fosters a compassionate and therapeutic clinical environment by delivering individualized, culturally sensitive emotional, intellectual, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and the community. Maintains immunization certification through an accredited organization and administers immunizations in accordance with collaborative practice agreements and established provider protocols Performs additional job-related responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES During the course of employment, the employee will consistently demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with other departments, and a commitment to confidentiality pursuant to HIPAA and Privacy Act guidelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Standing for long periods of time, frequent walking, and occasional lifting of 10lbs to 20lbs, reaching, bending, kneeling, or stretching is to be expected. The nature of the work also involves fine motor skills and visual acuity to measure and dispense medications and to operate office equipment. Work may involve exposure to infections, communicable diseases, contaminated materials, bodily fluids.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a climate controlled medical office environment. The employee’s work schedule may need to be flexible and adjusted according to business needs. The employee must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional, as well as be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Travel may be required to attend meetings, training sessions, or to provide staffing coverage at another pharmacy location.
