A Day in the Life: As a veterinary technician, you will assist the operations of the Shelter Medical teams, championing AHS' core values of innovation, compassion, and excellence.
You will assists veterinarians in the treatment of animals and independently evaluative animals to determine adoptability.
You will work alongside the team to ensure high levels of patient care.
You will be a relationship builder who collaborates with veterinarians, veterinarian technicians, and department leaders to solve problems and implement positive changes.
Job Requirements: High school diploma OR GED.
Completion of a veterinary technician program OR 2 years of experience at a veterinary hospital or clinic.
CVT not required.
Education may substitute for experience.
Must be able to assist veterinarians in all aspects of AHS' medical services including surgery, radiology, dentistry, laboratory diagnostics, client education, clinic asepsis, fluid therapy and the administration of prescribed medications.
Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, pharmacology and perform safe and humane animal handling.
Must be proficient in anesthesiology, vaccine administration, implanting microchips, prep, fluid therapy, laboratory procedures, injections, and medication.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary.
