Responsible for preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile field, and assisting surgeons by providing necessary instruments and supplies. Manages surgical counts of sponges and needles and handles specimens for laboratory transport.
Must be a graduate of an accredited scrub technological program with a CST certification. CPR certification is required within 90 days of hire, along with proven experience in sterile techniques.
The role of the Certified Scrub Technologist under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and all staff in the operating room (the “OR”) report to the Surgery Manager. This position is responsible for preparing the OR, maintaining a sterile field, and assisting the surgeon during procedures by handling instruments and supplies. This position is responsible for setting up sterile trays with instruments and equipment, assisting with patient preparation and positioning, and anticipating the surgeon's needs to hand them the correct tools throughout the surgery. This position is responsible for managing specimens and performing surgical counts of sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure everything is accounted for after the procedure is complete. Essential Position Responsibilities Set up sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for the specific surgical procedure. Ensure all equipment is sterilized and functioning properly. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and have all necessary items ready. Follow strict sterile techniques to prevent infection and contamination. Monitor and maintain the sterile field throughout the procedure. Provide surgical instruments and other sterile supplies to the surgeon upon request. Anticipate the surgeon's needs to ensure smooth workflow. Assist with tasks including retracting tissue and applying dressings after the procedure. Assist with patient preparation, such as pre-operative skin prep and positioning on the table. Help drape the patient with sterile surgical drapes. Account for all sponges, needles, and instruments before, during, and after the surgery. Handle and prepare specimens for transport to the lab. Perform inventory checks and restock supplies as needed. Work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other surgical staff effectively communicating with the surgical team to ensure optimal patient care. Assist in the transfer of patients to the recovery area. Participate in cleaning and preparing the OR for the next case assisting with post-operative cleanup. Qualifications Education: Graduate from an accredited scrub technological program. Licensure and Certifications: CPR required within 90 days. CST, required.
