Coordinate and provide total nursing care for expectant mothers and newborns during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum phase. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure safe birth experiences.
Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with an unencumbered Arkansas RN license and CPR certification. This position is open to experienced nurses only, with a preference for those with women's health experience.
The role of the Registered Nurse in Labor & Delivery reports to the Unit Manager, in direct partnership with the Director of Nursing. This position is responsible for coordinating and ensuring the total nursing care of assigned patients including assessment, planning, implementation, and documentation. This position provides direct care to expectant mothers and newborns throughout childbirth, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, coaching the mother, and offering emotional support. This position is responsible for caring for the patient and infant during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum phase, and collaborating with the care team to manage complications and ensure a safe birth experience. Essential Position Responsibilities Perform a comprehensive and accurate patient assessment using evidence-based assessment tools Provide nursing care according to plan, including physical and emotional support to mothers during labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period, and perform nursing skills in a competent and safe manner. Continuously monitor the vital signs and well-being of both the mother and the fetus. Identify changes in patient’s condition and report appropriately to provider. Administer medications and pain relief as ordered by provider, assist with procedures, and respond to obstetric emergencies as trained and assigned. Work closely with obstetricians and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate care. Educate expectant mothers and their families on labor, delivery, and newborn care. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for both the mother and infant. Prepare and maintain delivery rooms and equipment. Participate in unit specific quality improvement and process improvement projects. Qualifications Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program Licensure and Certifications: Arkansas RN license & CPR, required. ACLS and NRP within 90 days of hire.
