Provide accurate cardiac rhythm interpretation and continuous surveillance of telemetry patients to report dysrhythmias immediately to nursing staff. Document rhythm strips and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure patient safety and care quality.
Requires completion of an EKG Certification class and the ability to pass a competency test. Preferred experience includes one year in a hospital setting, specifically within critical care.
1.Provides accurate cardiac rhythm interpretation and surveillance through continuous monitoring of telemetry patients. Recognizes, records, and reports dysrrthymias and rhythm changes immediately to the patients nurse. Monitors rhythms continuously, mounts rhythm strips, and documents interpretation of rhythm/rate and PR, QRS, QT intervals. Specially trained in cardiac rhythm and EKG patterns. Documents and interprets rhythm strips. 2.Assists with the orientation of new employees to the work environment. Acts as a resource for students and peers. Functions as a preceptor when requested. Independently meets mandatory requirements. Teaches and informs others in an appropriate manner, within the scope of practice. 3.Uses appropriate problem solving information needed to perform assigned duties. Recognizes changes in patient's ECK rhythm or abnormal ECK findings and notifies the nurse in a timely manner. Gives shift report in a thorough, organized, and efficient manner. Creates permanent record of cardiac rhythm strips. Demonstrates clear and concise verbal and written communication skills. Communicates monitor problems and lead problems to the nurse. 4.Anticipates patients needs and seeks opportunities to alter care with the collaboration of a nurse. Shares knowledge with other members of the health care team on how to meet individual patient needs. Interacts with patients, physicians, nursing staff, biomedical engineering and other health care workers as needed. 5.Attends continuing education programs provided to maintain knowledge and skills. 6.Successfully completes a monitor technician test to ensure competency of rhythm identification. 7.Self-directed in completing assignments. Assures that work time is managed appropriately. Uses appropriate problem-solving approach to perform assigned duties. 8.Maintains work area and adequate supplies. Uses equipment/supplies correctly. Recognizes and trouble shoots technical monitor problems and report to the charge nurse and/or designee. 9.Age Specific Competency: Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and have the ability to meet the needs of and provide the care of these patients. The age categories to be included are: Neonatal/Infant 0 - 11 months; Pediatrics 1 - 12 yrs.; Adolescence 13 - 17 yrs.; Young Adult/Adult 18 - 64 yrs.; Adult/Middle Aged 65 - 79 yrs.; Geriatric 80+ yrs. 10.Performs other duties as assigned.
