Provide direct clinical services for pre- and post-operative patients within multidisciplinary care teams in inpatient and ambulatory settings. Manage critically ill patients in specialized units such as the ICU, CCU, and CVICU while supporting clinical research and quality improvement activities.
Requires a Master's degree in Nursing or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program with a current Georgia state license. Must possess ACLS certification and experience in medical/surgical treatment modalities and clinical protocol development.
Overview A Brief OverviewMember of a multidisciplinary care team that assists in coordination and management of post-operative / post-procedure and critically ill patients in the hospital, as well as evaluating pre- and post-operative / procedure patients in the ambulatory setting. Applies specialized skills and knowledge related to the care of patients in the CVOR, ICU, CCU and CVICU areas. Contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, consulting, and provide leadership to the organization.
Key Responsibilities Inpatient care responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provides direct clinical services for pre-operative and post-operative patients. and/or pre-procedure and post-procedure patients, within institutional guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the patient’s physician. Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient’s family, and staff. Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient’s clinical status and documents procedures in accordance with hospital requirements. Supports IRB approved clinical research/trials though a variety of activities including but not limited to: obtaining consent, ordering diagnostic tests, recording laboratory and diagnostic results, administering therapeutic interventions, and documenting and reporting patient outcomes including toxicities or adverse events. Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research. Ambulatory care responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assesses patients and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribes necessary treatment and services for quality patient care. Takes patient histories, conducts physical examinations, writes progress notes, prepares patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings, obtains psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assumes responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients. Orders and schedules laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures. Explains necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedure(s) to the patient, patient’s family, and staff. Monitors progress of patients, reports progress to supervising physician, and maintains record of each patient’s progress, consulting with supervising physician when patient’s progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria.
Education Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current Georgia license for Advanced Practice Nursing Required and Master’s degree a Master’s in Nursing, Required or Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistants program with current license for the Georgia State Composite Board Required Work Experience No experience required as a PA or NP Demonstrates years of experience with and knowledge of current medical, surgical and pharmaceutical treatment modalities. Required Experience in program development, quality improvement, research, development of evidence based clinical protocols, and regulatory readiness program planning. Required Previous experience in professional presentations and group education Licenses and Certifications ACLS Upon Hire Required and PA - Physician Assistant Licensed Physician Assistant in the State of Georgia Upon Hire Required or ACNP - Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Licensed Licensed for Advanced Practice Nursing (ACNP) in the State of Georgia Upon Hire Required Business
