The Medical Assistant provides direct clinical support to clinicians by preparing patients for exams and measuring vital signs. They are also responsible for managing patient flow, updating electronic medical records, and performing waived point-of-care testing.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalency, or a Medical Assistant certification. Preference is given to those with a certification program degree, experience with EPIC EMR, and over 2 years of clinical experience.
Location: 40 Holland Street, Somerville, MA Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Monday - Friday between 7:30am & 6:00pm Specialty: Family medicine Primary Responsibilities: Provides efficient flow of patients to optimize patient appointment availability Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms according to policy and procedures Prepare patient for examination; Measures vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse rate, weight, and height Assist clinicians with routine clinical procedures and/or additional tests specific to the department Advises patients of preparation or pre-visit testing required for exams specific to the department Ensures patients’ electronic medical record (EMR) is updated with medical information, including recent testing and consultations, including confirming demographic information, medications, allergies and chief medical complaints, and ensuring the EMR patient data is accurate and up to date Keeps patients informed of visit status, unforeseen delays and other relevant information Reconcile medications and sets up pending refills Discontinues prescriptions that are no longer active Assists in resolving minor patients’ concerns and complaints as appropriate Orders and performs point of care testing on patients; classified as waived testing (eg, strep, urine, hcg and glucose testing) You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
