Major
Responsibilities: Supports imaging technologists with preparation of patient and examination room prior to, during, and following imaging procedures in accordance with established infection control practices. Organizes and prepares exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, and maintaining equipment. Verifies patient identification using two identifiers and communicates with patients to explain procedures, obtain clinical history, confirm acknowledgment of patients' understanding and address any questions about the imaging procedure. Assists patient in preparation for exam and transferring patients to and from exam rooms. Independently transports patients to other areas of the facility as required. Uses the radiology computer systems to generate requisitions, check schedules, and obtain pertinent patient information. Reviews patients medical record to obtain necessary clinical information including patient history, lab results, and physician orders, obtains necessary clinical information from patients, and compares requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy. Positions patients and selects exposure factors for various CT exams following accepted radiation protection and safety practices under the direct supervision of a licensed radiographer. May NOT activate the exposure switch for diagnostic or fluoroscopic procedures. Ensures that images and other patient records are accurately documented, following approved workflows, in SmartChart, RIS and PACS in a timely manner. May NOT independently review and approve images. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), and Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 120 days. CT Registered with the ARRT needs to be obtained within 18 months.

Successful completion and documentation of academic course work in the following areas of study: Patient Care and Basic Radiation Safety and Protection.
